We are deeply committed to safeguarding our customers from fraud, but preventing scams is a shared responsibility. Your best defense is to stay informed, proactive, and cautious. By educating yourself on common scams and learning to recognize warning signs, you can better protect yourself from fraudsters. We encourage you to follow our helpful tips and remain vigilant. Please remember we will never ask for personal, bank, or card information via unsolicited communication. Any such request is likely a phishing attempt, aimed at stealing from you. Your awareness and good judgment are essential in keeping your financial transactions secure.
How to identify frauds
Fraud can be committed in different ways and different settings, common mediums include:
- Phone calls
- SMS
- Social media
Types of Fraud:
1. Email Fraud
Fraudsters may send emails pretending to be from a bank, claiming that your account is frozen for “security reasons” and urging you to call a phone number listed in the message. When you call, the person on the line will attempt to gather your personal details, giving them access to your bank account.
2. Phone Fraud
Scammers may call you, posing as bank employees, claiming your account is frozen, and requesting personal information. They might even connect you to an automated system asking for card details and security codes or send a fake SMS appearing to be from law enforcement with an “OTP” (One-Time Password) to gain your trust. Remember, your bank or law enforcement will never request this information. Never share OTPs or personal details—fraudsters can misuse them to access your accounts.
3. Social Media Fraud
Be cautious of fake accounts on social media that mimic trusted organizations like Al Jaber Exchange, complete with logos, banners, and professional-looking profiles. They may send friend requests or claim you’ve won a prize. Stay vigilant and don’t fall for these impersonations.
4. Lottery Scam
Fraudsters may send messages posing as a legitimate organization like Al Jaber Exchange, claiming you’ve won a promotion. They’ll ask for personal information to “verify your win” and use it to access your accounts. Al Jaber Exchange has actively warned the public about these scams, as they continue to be widely circulated.
5. Friend or Relative Emergency Scam
Scammers may contact you, pretending to be a friend or relative in urgent need of money. Always confirm the emergency is real before sending any money, especially if you haven’t met the person in real life. Verify urgent situations to ensure they’re genuine and trust your instincts to keep your finances safe.
6. Romance scam
You’ve made a new connection on social media, an online forum, or dating website and are asked to pay for travel or other emergency expenses. Never send money to someone you have not met in person.
7. Advance fee scam
When you’re asked to pay fees upfront for a loan, credit card, grant, investment, or inheritance money. Avoid responding to messages that come from unknown senders.
8. Internet purchase scam
Scammers post fake items for sale on classified sites or marketplaces and ask buyers to send money. Don’t fall for it! Always shop well-known and trustworthy websites.
9. Data Privacy Breach
Fraudsters may try to obtain your Emirates ID number, date of birth, bank details, or other personal information to gain access to your bank and social media accounts. Protect your private details, as fraudsters can misuse them to compromise your security.
